The United Nations International Day of Peace
Mrs. Sally Kader President and Founder of The International Federation for Peace and Sustainable Development (IFPSD)” calls on everyone and every country to observe 24 hours of non-violence in celebration of ‘The United Nations International Day of Peace”.
In celebration of the worldwide observance of Peace Day on September 21, President Sally Kader annually hosts high-level events at the United Nations Headquarters and around the world. Recent events that the IFPSD has hosted for this occasion have been at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, The Arab League Headquarters in Egypt as well as in Sweden, Taiwan, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunis, Morocco, France, Switzerland and South Korea to name a few.
The UN has changed the focus of this year’s Peace Day Theme: “Shaping Peace Together” to the Corona-virus as our common enemy. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, President Sally Kader urges all to spread words of compassion, kindness, and hope. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations has been quoted saying, “warring parties to lay down their weapons. These are not normal times, and our responses cannot be routine. The pandemic is not just a health issue. It is having direct and troubling effects on development, peace, and security.
Our global ceasefire appeal is resonating in many places and with many different groups. While distrust can make implementation difficult, I have been heartened by the strong support the appeal has received from civil society, which can influence and mobilize people at the grassroots.”
President Sally Kader wishes all a healthy and safe Peace Day and encourages all to take positive actions and make a personal difference to contribute to building a culture of peace. May peace start with you.
