March 1, 2010 – Human trafficking is now an international phenomenon and a “shared global shame.” Over the last twenty years, human trafficking has grown exponentially and has affected nearly every nation worldwide. In addition, since the 1990s, global awareness of the international phenomenon has increased by leaps and bounds. Today, nations understand the necessity of creating a global initiative to tackle the problem, prevent its growth and change the face of the 21st century for the better. This panel examined and analyzed the history of human trafficking and identified lessons learned from the experience of numerous countries in their fight against human trafficking.
